General Windshield FAQ’s:
While we will install your used auto glass we are not able to warranty the glass or installation because we have not way of knowing what stresses the auto glass has been under or the primers and urethanes used on the last installation.
Swapping your rear view mirror to your new windshield is part of our job. There is not an additional cost for this service.
We accept Cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. On account is available for fleets with prior approval.
We do not perform auto glass replacements in the rain or snow for both safety reasons and manufacture requirements. That does not mean that we cannot do the job. We can do it if you have proper cover such as a garage at your home/work or something else that would provide a suitable working environment including temperature requirements when applicable.
We will swap your old stickers over to your new windshield so you will not lose the information. We will also swap stickers for schools, parking, and military when possible.
In many cases, windshield repairs can be performed in 30 minutes or less. Windshield replacements will often take 60 minutes or less, however, you will not be able to drive the vehicle for at least one hour after service is completed.
The windshield is an integral part of your vehicles safety system and the adhesive must be allowed to cure properly before being driven. We use specially formulated urethane adhesives designed specifically for this purpose, allowing you to drive your vehicle safely after just one hour. The technician will advise you if any additional time is required.
If we originally installed the windshield for you, we will come and fix the problem at no cost. We also fix leaking windshields installed by other companies – We advise you make the original company provide proper customer service and take care of it at no cost. If they will not, we can do it but be advised that this will in many cases require a new windshield. You may be shocked that we can’t simply squirt more glue or patch up the leak, but in order to create a proper bond we need to remove the leaking windshield. A windshield can almost never be removed without it breaking. We have to look under the windshield and find out what is causing the leak. There are a number of reasons a windshield could leak. There could be rust, bad urethane placement, too little adhesive, uneven placement of urethane, etc.. The bottom line is that the windshield needs to be removed, which means it will break, so the technician can repair the problem and properly bond the windshield to the car. Setting a windshield needs to be done right the first time. Once it is set there is no way to go back to change a mistake.
Yes. We use the highest quality auto glass from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) such as PPG, Pilkington, Mopar, Carlite, and Guardian.
We can complete most vehicles in approximately 1 hour. However, you will need to refrain from driving your vehicle for an additional hour after the installation is complete to ensure proper curing of the urethane seal. Your technician can provide the best estimate of a safe drive-away time on the day of your installation, based on current conditions and materials used
Yes. We sell and service all auto glass parts: Door, Vent, Back, Quarter, etc. We DO NOT handle sunroofs or T-tops.
Yes, if you have full coverage (comprehensive). Your only out of pocket expense is your comprehensive deductible, which in most cases is $0-$100. If you think your deductible is higher than $100, be sure to confirm that you are not confusing your “collision†deductible with your “comprehensive†deductible, as collision deductibles are usually higher, but not applicable to windshield replacement or repair.

You should contact your insurer to verify their position on this issue. However, auto glass replacement and windshield replacement falls under the “comprehensive†portion of your insurance rather than the “collision†portion. A cracked windshield does not reflect your driving ability and has no bearing on your level of risk to the insurance company. Therefore the windshield repair or windshield replacement of your car should not influence your insurance premiums.

Yes we do. Chapman Auto Glass will perform all of our own installations – at times we even perform installations for other glass companies.
NO. Simply put — It is called steering and is illegal. You as the insured have the right to have the repairs completed at the shop of your choice.
We are setup to process claims for all major insurance companies. All we need is the name of you insurance provider, policy number, Date of Loss, agent’s name, and telephone number. We take care of the rest. If we have not done business with your carrier it is only a phone call away. There is no reason we cannot work with an insurance company.
Because liability insurance only provides coverage for damages to another vehicle, auto glass services are not covered under your liability policy.
Many insurance companies cover windshield repair at 100 percent coverage with no deductible. As of January 2006 State Farm no longer waives your deductible for rock chip repairs.
Not necessarily. Proper training, quality products, and experienced installers are what make the difference. In some cases a “preferred” or “approved” shop is the shop that charges the least amount regardless of the quality.
In newer models the vehicles computer is located below the dash. If your windshield leaks the water will/can flow down into your dash and short out and destroy your computer… which can be a very expensive repair.
You will be responsible for any cost up to your deductible amount. Your insurance company will pick up any amount over your deductible amount.
Windshield Repair FAQ’s:
In almost all cases you should have it repaired unless:
- The rock chip is in the driver’s line of sight an area approximately the size of a sheet of paper (8.5 X 11) commonly called the acute area.
- Is over one year old or it has already been repaired.
- The chip, cracks included, are larger than a 50 cent piece.
After the rock chip appears, do not put anything on the windshield except water or window cleaner. You may be tempted to apply cleansers, rain repellents, soap, baby oil, foreign chemicals, glue, vinegar, finger nail polish, or other “home remedies”, but these products will only make it more difficult to repair
The possibility of your rock chip forming into a crack is greater now if not repaired. But if you repair the rock chip before it turns into a crack it will not spread under normal conditions. A rock chip could form a crack if there is a drastic change in temperature (example: washing you car on a very hot day with cold water) or if internal or external stress occurs to the windshield.
Windshield repair is a process that utilizes modern technology to repair rather than replace a damaged windshield. Repairing a damaged windshield makes sense for several reasons:
- It saves money by preventing the need for costly replacement
- It’s very convenient.
- It does not affect the integrity of the original factory seal since the glass is never removed therefore no risk of a leak or air noise.
- You also keep your original quality glass. Windshield repair can avoid costly windshield replacement, when possible, at a fraction of the replacement cost. The repair provides a strong bond that prevents further cracks and improves the cosmetic appearance.
Stone damage or rock “chips” up to the size of a 50 cent piece can be repaired. Best results are obtained if the repair is done before the damaged area is contaminated from washing or inclement weather. A rock chip is usually round or star shaped and may have lines radiating from the center. It has a black or silver color to it.
Hint: If your rock chip looks like a white speck in the glass and has no dark areas, then this should not be repaired. It is only a pit
Basically, the process consists of injecting a specially formulated resin into the damaged area. When the damaged area has been completely filled, it is exposed to an ultraviolet light which cures the resin. This restores 100% of the structural integrity and in most cases, a good deal of the clarity on the damaged area. Most stone chip repairs can be done in 15-30 minutes.
When looking through the glass, vision should not be impaired. If vision is impaired, the windshield should be replaced. Your rock chip should become noticeably clearer when repaired. However, clarity is dependent upon the size, age, amount of glass missing from the center and the quantity of fragmented glass within the break.
Note: chemicals applied to the rock chip may prevent the windshield repair resin from adhering to the glass. Optical clarity varies from 50% to 100%.
Because most Insurance companies waive the deductible and pay for the repair, you probably won’t have any out of pocket expense. If you do choose to pay for the repair yourself, prices vary from area to area. Each Insurance company has a set price they pay to have a rock chip repaired. We honor those prices… even when they differ from our posted prices.
Mobile Rock chip: $79.95
Additional rock chip on the same windshield, on the same visit is only an additional $10 each.
This is more likely to happen when working on a car that is sitting in the sun with the windows rolled up on a hot day. The windshield would be over 120 degrees F and very sensitive. Industry statistics say that chances are 1 in 5000 for this to happen
Contact Us and we will set up a convenient time to repair your windshield either in shop or mobile.
Typically, a star or bullseye repair takes about 15-30 minutes, start to finish. For more than one chip add about fifteen minutes each.
Most insurance companies consider windshield repair a No Fault claim and it will not affect your insurance rate.
Windshield repair is covered by the comprehensive portion of an individuals’ insurance policy. All major insurance companies encourage and have recognized the benefits of windshield repair. Most insurance companies will waive the deductible requirement if a windshield is repaired rather than replaced, reducing your cost to zero! Please contact your insurance agent to confirm if you are eligible. We will do all the insurance paperwork, saving you the hassle! The best advice about getting your car fixed is to remember that the money may be coming from the insurance company but you should still control the repair process.
Established pricing discounts set by the insurance companies will be honored. There will never be any charge to the insured over and above their deductible.
If the damage is larger than the size of a 25 cent piece or appears in the “acute area” or the driver’s line of vision, the windshield will need to be replaced.

If it is a vent glass, quarter glass or back glass it will be installed with Dow Adhesives. The same brand and quality of urethanes and primers used by 80% of the original vehicle manufacturers in the world.
